高盛CEO都試過搵intern俾人reject?點樣先可以有個fulfilling career? 四大要素你要知!有咩慘過搵intern俾人reject?就係被人reject兩次!同學仔見住人哋個個入曬Bulge Brackets,而自己咩都無嘅大家可能都會覺得自己已經玩完啦,人人有工開有靚CV寫但自己就miss the shot。不過 有一個人唔同意,佢係Goldman Sachs嘅CEO David Solomon。喺最近嘅NYU Stern’s商學院2023屆畢業禮上嘅主題演講入面,Solomon分享咗佢進入高盛嘅曲折路程。演講入面佢提及到佢喺20幾歲對未來無任何計劃嘅階段,同埋佢成功嘅四個原則。到底包括啲咩?同學仔可以點參考?繼續向右碌啦!每個家庭都想望子成龍 你追求緊嘅係你屋企人嘅期望定係自己想要嘅嘢?作為喺New York Citytown外長大嘅Solomon,其實佢對自己將來無特別嘅想法,頂多可能想做個Rock n Roll嘅鼓手過下日晨,反而佢媽媽就對佢抱有好大嘅期望。天下間嘅爸爸媽媽只要一講起子女將來,其實大家都一樣,少不免都係醫生律師咁上下,特別係佢媽媽係一個好能幹嘅女強人。可惜當時嘅環境未必太有利於女性喺職場嘅發展,所以佢無辦法喺專業界別大展所長。最後呢一團未熄滅嘅火就被強加落Solomon身上。唔知大家對Solomon喺20幾歲嘅經歷有無共鳴呢?到底大家所追求緊嘅人生係真係driven by自己嘅想法,定係只係屬於家人/社會對你嘅期望呢?如果你係Solomon你又會點做?佢最後雖然無選擇媽媽嘅意願,但仍然想成為專業人士嘅佢決定向Business field進發。搬咗去New York City嘅佢就同同學仔依家嘅處境一樣:不停send CV apply唔同工,希望可以搵到地方落腳。無父幹嘅話 成功需苦幹?成功嘅四大要素係啲咩?第一個Lesson:Resilience搵工嘅過程令佢對反省到Resilience嘅重要性。作為高盛CEO嘅佢原來都曾經俾高盛reject過,被拒兩次之餘,仲俾人話佢唔係高盛嘅材料添!39年後嘅佢已經掌舵高盛,就呢個經歷講到:「我哋犯下最大嘅錯就係當工作開始變難嘅時候,就選擇放棄而去搵其他工作。」我哋有好多同學仔成日話自己唔夠自信、Skillsets唔夠好,驚搵工唔夠其他人爭,但其實自信同技能都係靠不停失敗、學習咁訓練出嚟㗎。CV俾人feedback多啲、 Interview試多啲、咁實戰嘅時候都無咁驚啦。當中過程一定會好辛苦,會覺得「個天要跌落嚟」,但只要逆流而上,人生一定會俾返你應該嘅獎勵你嘅。第二個Lesson:Excellence小編自己都有lead過intern,我哋最唔希望聽到嘅就係:「我都唔想㗎」。無論係咪conscious都好,我哋嘅行為都係反映住自己嘅選擇,而Excellence is also a choice。Solomon分享到有一次同高盛爭生意嘅時候,因為個人能力而被高盛嘅Partner挖角。當時佢面對嘅選擇就係:去高盛但要接受降職;或者繼續留喺原公司享受高薪厚職,同學仔又會點揀呢?佢認為Excellence is a choice。職位薪酬呢啲嘢短暫之餘亦會隨時改變,但公司嘅文化、人材、Network先係穩住一間公司嘅核心,所以佢決定毅然跳槽。有好多時間要choose for excellence都相當唔容易㗎,特別同學仔仲後生,未必咁了解公司文化、Talent Development嘅表現,可能會focus多啲係薪酬呢啲顯然易見嘅範疇。如果想搵間excellent嘅公司就一定要做夠research,有insider connection就最好啦!第三個Lesson:EmpathaySolomon認為,如果想喺職場上得到fulfilment嘅話,authentic connection就好重要。喺疫情時期,佢曾經打過俾唔同同事了解佢哋嘅近況,雖然都只係閒話家常,但呢個舉動令同事相當感動。仲有一個tips就係,莫因事小而忽略讚美或者感謝。除咗令到雙方feel appreciated之外,仲可以促進良好嘅長遠關係。同學仔相信將來好快都會lead team,知道多啲practice,做起嘢上嚟都事半功倍啦!第四個Lesson:Spend Your Time Wisely大家會唔會覺得成日唔夠時間用呢?如果用calendar mark返你每日做過啲咩,你嘅時間又用曬喺邊?Solomon認為How we spend our days就等於How we spend our life。雖然同學可能岩岩畢業仲好青春,但青春小鳥一個唔覺意真係會飛得快過火箭,我哋生活上嘅時間成本,可能喺無形中令我哋浪費咗更加多嘅機會,錢可以再搵得返,時間就一去不返啦。Excellence is a choice,如果你由今日起想好好看待你嘅時間,喺呢個暑假spend time wisely,令自己搵工更順利嘅話,就立即去我哋嘅bio link sign up for 一個嘅 consultation call,了解下個coaching program 計劃自己嘅career game plan啦!
